Oscar-nominee Mike Figgis joined Mark to talk about his book The Thirty-six Dramatic Situations, which he claims unlocks writer’s block. Hope Dickson-Leach who set up Raising Films joined us to talk about new release The Levelling (2016) in Coming Attractions. In One From the Vaults, Mark celebrated the 30^th anniversary of the release of Rita, Sue & Bob Too (1987). In List-O-Mania, as Twin Peaks returns to our screens after 25 years, he gave us Ten Reasons why David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992) is brilliant. Our final guest Michael Smiley joined us to divulge his Guilty Pleasure: No Surrender (1985). Jonathan Demme passed away this month and in Sound & Vision Mark celebrated his seminal concert film about The Talking Heads, Stop Making Sense (1984), featuring the brilliant Burning Down the House.

In One from the Vaults, Jarvis Cocker discussed his stage show Room 29. Guest Anne Dudley joined Mark for Sound & Vision to talk about the music she composed for Elle (2016), Black Book (2006) and The Full Monty (1997) – and how it felt to win an Oscar. Mark paid homage to The Full Monty by talking about You Can Keep Your Hat On.

Julie Ducournau joined Mark in Coming Attractions to discuss RAW (2016). She stayed on to discuss why she considers the 80s classic, Dirty Dancing (1987), this month’s title for One from the Vaults, to be a feminist film. In Here’s the Thing Mark talked about the British Independent Film Awards, the BIFAs and was joined by Hayley Squires to talk about her role in Ken Loach’s powerful new film, I, Daniel Blake (2016). In a special edition of MK3D at the Warwick Arts Centre, Den of Geek creator Simon Brew joined Mark to talk about Superman 3 (1983). In List-O-Mania, he Mark listed his Ten Favourite Alien Contact films. One From the Vaults featured The Heat of The Night (1967). In Guilty Pleasures, Mark listed the remakes he considers to be better than the original, culminating in his favourite remake Breathless (1983). In homage to Deliverance (1972), two members of the audience were challenged to a duel on the Theremin. In Sound & Vision Mark celebrated David Lynch’s classic Blue Velvet (1986).

Film critic Kate Muir joined Mark for this month’s Ask the Audience to discuss gender balance in the film industry. This month’s Guilty Pleasure saw Stephen Woolley talk about Millions like Us (1943), and his upcoming film Their Finest (2016). To time with the release of Arrival (2016), Mark discussed his Top Ten Films about Alien Contact in List-O-Mania. One From the Vaults featured the Sidney Poitier classic, In the Heat of the Night (1967). Robert Ziegler joined Mark to talk about the rising popularity of film screenings with live orchestral accompaniment. Robert accompanied Mark on the piano and so he could reprise his Midnight Cowboy (1969) solo on the harmonica in Sound & Vision.

This month saw One From the Vaults make a return with Patricia Quinn discussing the beloved cult classic, The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and in Sound & Vision we paid homage to it by talking about the Time Warp. Babak Anvari came to talk about his film Under the Shadow (2016). Noel Clarke came to talk about the BFI’s report on diversity in film, their Black Star Season, and about his films Kidulthood (2006), Adulthood (2008), Brotherhood (2016) and Fast Girls (2012). In his List-O-Mania, Mark described his Ten Most Memorable Experiences at Film Festivals Around the Globe. Alan Jones divulged his Guilty Pleasure: Grease 2 (1982).

Ewen Bremner came to talk about his on-screen acting career, in anticipation of Trainspotting 2 (2017). Mark did a run-down of the worst Scottish accents in the movies, and in List-O-Mania listed his Ten Favourite Films set in Scotland.  One From the Vaults featured the use of the theremin in film music and invited an audience member onto the stage to demonstrate how easy/hard it is to play. Hope Dickson Leach came to talk about the Coming Attraction for this month, her film The Levelling (2016), as well as about her campaign to make the industry more accommodating to working mothers.  In Guilty Pleasures, Mark gave us Mars Attacks (1996) and in Sound & Vision, he talked about Elvis’ Viva Las Vegas (1964).
